The First Response Emergency Care (FREC) qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide pre-hospital care to patients requiring emergency care/treatment.It is specifically designed for those seeking a career in the emergency services, ambulance services, the event medical sector or those who work in high risk workplaces, including the security/close protection industry.
This Ofqual regulated pre-hospital care qualification is ideal for those who have a specific responsibility to respond to emergency situations. The qualification is approved by Qualsafe Awards (the UK’s largest Awarding Organisation for first aid qualifications) and is clinically endorsed by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh - Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (FPHC).
The life saving skills taught are particularly suited to security staff, medical response teams, fire and police officers, industrial first aiders, healthcare providers and community responders.

Successful Learners will gain the knowledge, skills and competences needed to deal with a wide range of pre-hospital care emergencies, such as:
• Adult CPR and AED • Airway anatomy • Airway management • Burn severity • Catastrophic bleeding • Child cardiopulmonary resuscitation • Choking patient • Circulatory system • ECG recognition • Infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation • Management of fractures • Medical emergencies • Patient report form • Respiratory system • Secondary survey • Unconscious patient • Wounds, bleeding and shock
A Qualsafe/RCSEd recommended manual will be provided when you attend the course.
Learners must be at least 17 years old on the first day of the training.
There are no other formal entry requirement but to benefit from the learning we advise that learners have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent and a basic understanding of first aid (First Aid certification would be advantageous but not essential).
The QA Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (QCF) qualification may be used towards other qualifications at the same and higher levels, plus aid career progression in a relevant profession.
This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years. The Learner needs to retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified.
